Grammy nominated, two time winner of the prestigious W.C. Handy award for “Blues Band of the Year”, James Solberg
will be appear at the Rockfish Grill, 8 PM Thursday, March 3rd. Admission is $7 @ the door.
Solberg's musical career began in the sixties when, as a teenager, he began playing around the Chicago area with such blues greats as Eddie Taylor, Johhny Young, Big Walter Horton and Jimmy Reed. Later in seventies he played extensively with Johnny Winter and joined Luther Allison's group with whom he later released several albums.
In the late eighties, Solberg became a member of a monster lineup called "The Legendary Blues Band" featuring Muddy Waters alumni Pinetop Perkins, Willie Smith, Calvin Jones and Eric Clpaton sideman, Jerry Portnoy.
During that same timeframe Solberg formed The Nightwhawks with guitarist, Elvin Bishop who he played with until hooking back up with Luther Allison as his the leader of his regular touring and recording band. The Reunited Allison and Solberg band toured extensively headlining most every major festival stage in the world until Allison's untimely death in 1997.
Since then, Solberg has released several solo albums including “SEE THAT MY GRAVE IS KEPT CLEAN”, “L.A. BLUES” and the W.C. Handy award winning and grammy nominated “LIVE IN CHICAGO”, featuring Allison and released posthumously. Solberg is currently touring behind his latest release "REEL TIME" on Blue Circuit Records. His touring band includes longtime sideman, Larry "Third Degree" Byrne on Hammond B3, 2003 W.C. Handy Drummer of the Year, Allen Kirk and newest member, Scott Sutherland on bass.
