Scott Cossu is an internationally acclaimed composer, pianist, and recording artist. He was one of the first Windham Hill artists to join founder Will Ackerman and Alex de Grassi on their new label and had success from the start. Scott’s first record for Windham Hill, Wind Dance, was produced by George Winston and featured Alex de Grassi. The Boston Globe called it, “A sparkling record.” In 1984 Islands instantly made #1 on the JAZZ National airplay list.
Reunion topped the charts in 1986 and Scott’s reputation as one of instrumental music’s brightest stars was set. She Describes Infinity followed in 1987, a record backed by some of New York’s finest musicians. In 1989, his record Switchback soared to #4 on the New Horizons Pick of the Year, made #1 on the Billboard charts, and brought him international fame. He became a popular artist in the concert circuits and by the end of 1989, he had sold out shows in Germany, England, Japan and Chile.
When the Windham Hill label sold, Scott signed with the well-known distributor, Allegro-Music in Portland, Oregon and joined their Alula Visions music label. He has since released Emerald Pathway, When Spirits Fly, and Tides Between Us. All have received generous airplay in the states and abroad.
Tides Between Us is dedicated to the Puget Sound area of Washington State. The album is number fifteen on the New Age Reporter’s Top 50 CD’s for the year of 2009. He was listed in the top 20 of Japan’s most listened to CDs.
Scott affectionately calls his music Heavy Mental or Cosmic National Geographic. Although he is widely considered one of the grandfathers of the New Age scene, Billboard Magazine labeled him a “jazz luminary of the future”.
Scott spends much of his time performing or in the studio, but he has also recorded music for television advertisements, film documentaries and nature videos, and hosted an Adult Contemporary show called Wind Dance.
Most recently, Scott has returned to the studio. Scott has re-recorded his most-requested pieces from the unavailable Windham Hill catalog. He added five new songs to the recording he has titled Safe in Your Arms. Heart Dance Records released this album in October 2015. It was nominated, Best Piano with Instrumentation, at the Zone Music Awards, in New Orleans. Scott continues to live with his family in the Pacific Northwest, content with his musician’s life of touring and composing and surrounded with the lush beauty the area has to offer.
