BRIAN LEE and the ORBITERS

Brian Lee & the Orbiters are based in Seattle, Washington, and are one of the premier bands on the Northwest blues scene. Brian fronts the band with melodic vocals and superb guitar, slide guitar, and blues harp. Brian has lead the band since it's formation in 1999, initially called the Blues Orbiters. The "Orbiters" name evokes the concept of the band-- a "broad orbit through the blues universe".

Brian's blues influences from an early age include Elmore James, T-Bone Walker, Big and Little Walter, Johnny Watson, Guitar Slim, Peter Green, and later additions such as Jr. Watson, Jimmy Vaughan, Rick Estrin, Gary Smith, etc... Brian has lead the Orbiters to a prominent position in the Northwest blues scene based on their engaging and energetic delivery, top-flight musicianship, and great repertoire of original tunes and gems from the blues tradition. The Brian Lee Trio scales this same sound to provide a perfect fit for smaller venues. Brian and the band are serious in their musicianship, but have serious fun when they perform! Without gimmicks, the focus is on delivering a great performance of great tunes that are perfect for both dancing and listening.

Band members include some of the finest players in the area:

Guitar: Steve Yonck contributes to the Orbiters sound with his superb guitar work. Steve is deeply versed in the blues tradition, and he is an exceptionally fine guitarist. He has previously contributed to several top Northwest bands including the Hudson Blues Band, Kim Field's Titans of Tone, Harmonica Playboy and the Midnight Movers, and earlier performances with the Orbiters. His distinctive style is a superb complement to Brian's slide, harp, and guitar playing. Steve has recently rejoined with the Orbiters - check out the new photos in our gallery!

Drums: Russ Kammerer performs with both the Orbiters and the Trio. He's a superb drummer who really drives the groove with energy and finesse. Russ's playing demonstrates incredible versatility, polish, and expertise that comes from many years of professional touring performance. He's a fantastic player!

Bass: Hank Yanda plays bass with both the Orbiters and Trio. Hank also provides superb vocals. He's an amazing player who also has been on the scene for many years, and his experience really shows . He is a truly remarkable musicianwho really understand the blues.

Brian and the Orbiters have been honored with several "Best of the Blues" nominations by the Washington Blues Society. For 2011, Brian has been nominated for "Best Slide Guitar". In 2010, Brian was nominated for "Best Male Vocalist", and the band was nominated for "Best Blues Act", and "Best Traditional Blues Act". The Orbiters were also nominated for "Best Band" in 2008 and 2003, as well as for "Best Recording" in 2006.

GAIL PETTIS

Filling in tonight for Trish Hatley is award winning vocalist, Gail Pettis:

Three-time nominee and recent winner of Earshot Golden Ear Awards "Northwest Vocalist of the Year," Gail is a welcome addition to the Pacific Northwest jazz scene. Gail's rich, warm vocals and understated phrasing inspire comparisons to Nancy Wilson, Sarah Vaughn and Carmen McRae and have been described as "deliciously soulful" by Cadence Magazine.

Gail inherited a passion for jazz from her family while growing up in Gary, Indiana. Over the years, her desire for creative expression fueled an exploration of instrumental performance and dance, exposing her to many other styles of music, however vocal jazz remains her first love. Now residing in Seattle, she continues to draw inspiration from these diverse influences and enjoys sharing her unique talent with listeners at home and abroad. Most recently, she was artist-in-residence at the Amersfoort Jazz Festival in the Netherlands, performing with the New Manhattan Big Band and with Eddie C. and the Dutch Jazz Cats on the mainstage and other venues in Amersfoort and Harderwijk. Included on this tour was a stop in Kobe, Japan to perform as a guest artist at Kobe's annual Jazz Vocal Queen Competition as 2006 First Place winner of the Seattle-Kobe Female Jazz Vocalist Audition.

Closer to home, Gail's smooth, engaging style garners consistent praise from enthusiastic audiences in the region's finest jazz establishments including the Sorrento Hotel, Bake's Place Providence Point, Bellevue's 0/8 Seafood Grill & Twisted Cork Wine Bar, Osteria La Spiga in Capitol Hill. Audiences have also enjoyed her performances at Tula's, Bite of Seattle, and Belltown's La Vita 'e Bella Café.

In addition to public and private engagements, Gail enjoys spending time in the studio. Her voice-over work has been heard on radio and television commercials. Her debut CD, "May I Come In ?" was released to an enthusiastic national audience in August 2007 on the OA2 Record label. The recording has also been showcased on listeners on XM Satellite Radio and Music Choice television and was recently nominated for Earshot Golden Ear "2007 Northwest Recording of the Year".

"(Gail Pettis)....goes from strength to strength, performing a winning, crowd-involving style of vocal jazz."

—Earshot Jazz

When we select entertainment, we not only look for artists who have honed their skills, but we look for artists who connect with the music they perform and with the audience they are performing for. Gail Pettis, in our opinion, can do all of these things and more.

VAUGHN JENSEN BAND

The Vaughn Jensen Band one of the premier rhythm and blues bands in the Eastern Washington area, are known for their untamed, high energy brand of blues. Playing originals and not so traditional covers, guitarist and song writer Vaughn Jensen brings his harmony and chemistry and love of the blues to the front of the band. He teams up with veteran musicians Bruce on the bass, Doug on the sax’s, Bob on the drums, Rob on the harmonica and Juaquin Esparza a.k.a. champ on the guitar to create a grooving get-up-and-moving feeling. But from the softest soft to the growl-ingest growl to the grooviest groove, The Vaughn Jensen Band lays it down heavy and righteous! Audiences go crazy when they knock down the standards. Yet when The Vaughn Jensen Band plays an original tune, not only do they elevate the blues to new heights, the crowd stands up and cheers for more!
