GERTRUDE'S HEARSE

Gertrude’s Hearse is a band hailing from La Conner, Washington. The band was formed atop the hill by bassist Stephen Starr and guitarist Raymond John adding Tim Saxton, Keith Stone, Matt Clausen and a plethora of other players to become one of the area’s hottest new bands. In short amount of time, they have built an outstanding repertoire of music ranging from folk, country and rock to bluegrass, R&B and punk. No one else has their style, their energy, or their theme.

Gertrude (grrr-trood) - An old-time name representing the style of music from which the band bases its sound. They are equally comfortable playing acoustically, around a single can microphone, or plugged into a PA on-stage. Versatility has been an important factor in their early success as a band.

Hearse (her-sss) - A car used to transport a coffin to a burial site. It is also a somewhat taboo word in the English language, not often used and retaining a sort of mystery. The name of the band is hard to get out of the heads of those who have said it aloud or read it in print.

The undertakers and country-rock-bluegrass-rockin-punk-folk singers gaining quite a reputation in the Pacific Northwest are commonly known as Gertrude’s Hearse. They are becoming legend, often imitated, and never reproduced. Mothers watch yer daughters, fathers git yer guns, brothers watch yer tounges and everyone git ready for a shin splittin’ good time when Gertrude’s Hearse rolls into town.

FIRKIN FRIDAY EVERY WEEK

On Firkin Fridays, the Rockfish Grill offers cask conditioned versions of Anacortes ales. Cask conditioning is an English tradition that allows the beer to finish its fermentation in the barrel or "firkin" resulting in a character and complexity unique from any other beer. We'll offer a different variety every Friday served directly from the firkin with a traditional English hand pump. There's one batch a week and we pour till its gone, so get it while you can!

JOE PAQUIN AND FRIENDS

Former Rounder Records recording artist, Joe Paquin wakes up every morning thanking the Powers That Be for giving him one more day to have the opportunity to share his music with the world. Critically acclaimed while with the band The Sundogs for 17 years, Joe is currently strapped into the pilot's seat for a musical flight to hippiebilly heaven.

Not too long ago, Paquin was in the throes of heavy duty chemo treatments in an effort to do battle with stage 4 colon/liver/lymph node cancer. After 6 months on that front line, Joe took a deep breath of gratitude and saddled back up for a fresh musical journey that has him, today, embarking on new tours, a new record (he still calls them records), a great new band, and a wealth of new-found energy.

With the loving support of a wonderful wife (Nancie) and an extremely talented son (Luke, who plays guitar for Hot Hot Heat) and an extended family of friends and fans, Joe Paquin vows to take it all by the bootstraps, sing 'til he's hoarse, tour 'til he drops, and spread the hippiebilly word with the vigor and passion of God's own preacher.
