3 LEG TORSO

On Friday, August 4th, the Portland-based musical ensemble 3 Leg
Torso
arrive at the Rockfish bringing with them "all the beauty of Astor Piazolla's music and the spirit
of the Kronos Quartet." (CMJ) The show starts at 9:00 PM.

3 Leg Torso presents a very real difficulty for inveterate categorizers. The best one-sentence description comes courtesy of the All Music Guide: "Their original tunes incorporate elements of modern chamber music, Middle Eastern and Eastern European folk music and Argentinean tango."

This unusual synthesis is delivered with equal parts creativity, intelligence, wit
and joie de vivre. In other words, it's great, brainy, soulful fun.

From their 1996 start as a trio busking on Portland streets, 3 Leg Torso
has advanced their career with a feature on NPR's "All Things Considered",
appearances with symphony orchestras, independent film soundtrack work,
two commissions for the Portland Institute For Contemporary Art, an
appearance at the Hollywood Bowl and three CD releases.

CEE CEE JAMES

In her previous reincarnation as the "the funkywhitegirl," Cee Cee James took home not only the 2001 Los Angeles Music R&B Award, but was a JOHN LENNON SONGWRITING CONTEST runner up in the TOP 10 R&B Song Category. However Cee Cee was really born to sing the blues and has since turned her funked up soul stuff into ‘WHISKEY DRENCHED ROADHOUSE BLUES!’

If you wanna hear and feel the ‘REAL DEAL,’ Cee Cee James is a MUST SEE igniting the stage with a fire and energy reminiscent of many of the great performers of our time such as Janis Joplin, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Joe Cocker and countless others who disappear into the SOUL, SWEAT, AND DEEP FEEL of the music...

PAUL GREEN and STRAIGHT SHOT

Paul Green's 35-year professional career began in New Jersey in 1968 with The Blackberry Booze Band. He also performed with other Jersey musicians including Bruce Springsteen, The E Street Band, Clarence Clemons and Little Steven Van Zandt.

Moving to Oakland, California, in 1975, Paul became a member of the house band at a popular blues spot, Eli's Mile High Club, performing there weekly and recording two albums with JJ Malone and Troyce Key. From 1975 to 1989 he performed throughout the Bay Area with his own band and other musicians, including Sonny Rhodes, Little Frankie Lee, JJ "Bad Boy" Jones, Cool Papa, Percy Mayfield, Lowell Fulson, Pee Wee Crayton, John Little John, and others.

In 1989 Paul relocated to Chicago where he continued to "cool himself" in the blues. He performed in such legendary Chicago blues clubs as Buddy Guy's, Rosa's, Kingston Mines, and Blues Etc., and shared the stage with such notables as Sugar Blue and Junior Wells.

Paul came to the Seattle area in 1991 and promptly won the Washington Blues Society award for "Best Blues Harmonica" in 1992. More recently, he won this award again in 2001, 2003 and 2004, and was also voted "Best Male Vocalist" in 2004.

Paul has recorded extensively with Dan Dean Productions for commercial and studio productions and has been performing locally in numerous venues with his hard-hitting Chicago-style electric blues quartet, Straight Shot.

FIRKIN FRIDAYS

On Firkin Fridays, the Rockfish Grill offers cask conditioned versions of Anacortes ales. Cask conditioning is an English tradition that allows the beer to finish its fermentation in the barrel or "firkin" resulting in a character and complexity unique from any other beer. We'll offer a different variety every Friday served directly from the firkin with a traditional English hand pump. There's one batch a week and we pour till its gone, so get it while you can!

NW JAZZ MASTERS SERIES with the CHRISTOPHER GROSS ENSEMBLE

The Rockfish Grill's Northwest Jazz Maters Series continues with the Christopher Gross Ensemble.

Christopher Gross has a diverse musical background ranging from jazz fusion to classical, rock, folk and chorale styles.
Gross began playing guitar at age fourteen and soon after began studying guitar under jazz fusion great Don Mock. He was also selected as a student performer for both Christopher Parkening's and David Russell's master classes.

An excellent vocalist, Gross sang with local Italian folk group Le Voci Allegre, out of which he formed a close harmony men's Italian quartet Il Quartetto Nuovo. He later joined the St. James Cathedral Choir, one of the nation's best church choirs, and then became the tenor section leader for the Pacific Northwest Chamber Chorus.

He has continued to develop his interest in composition and arranging with his jazz fusion group, The Christopher Gross Ensemble, which has performed for enthusiastic audiences at clubs, festivals and concert halls througout the Northwest.
