CROSSROADS

Led by bluesharp legend, Steve Bailey, Crossroads a top notch act that will knock your socks of with their swinging blend of the blues.

Steve Bailey is truly a Northwest blues pioneer, starting his Seattle performing career in the late 1960's. Bailey was a mainstay of the original Public Market Blues scene, and the list of musicians that have played in his bands reads like a who's who of the Northwest Blues. A triple-threat performer on vocals, guitar, and harp, Bailey is also an accomplished songwriter, as well as running his own recording studio. Bailey's recordings with "The Blue Flames" took him on multiple tours to Europe and Japan, and he was the mastermind behind the international hit album, "Northwest Harmonica Showcase."

Joined by Dennis Ellis on sax , Dan Newton on guitar and vocals, John Lee on bass and John Rockwell on drums these guys will keep you rockin with Memphis soul to rollicking New Orleans gumbo.

THE INSOMNIACS
Thursday, December 6, 2007

THE INSOMNIACS

The Insomniacs are waking up the West Coast with a fresh outlook on vintage blues. This Jump Blues band ignites a party wherever they perform as they consistently fill the dance floor with a groove that is layered with taste, soul, and an authentic style melded with a traditional blend of jump, blues and roots rock & roll.

The band is fronted by one of the hottest young bluesmen around: 25-year-old Vyasa Dodson, who leads the band with his own fresh take on vintage West Coast blues. His song writing, guitar playing and vocals bring to mind classic blues tradition viewed through the eyes of a youthfully energetic performer coming of age in the 21st century.
Vyasa is backed by a group of established pros who create a powerful and dynamic sound that keeps people dancing until the wee hours of the morning: Dean Mueller on bass, Alex Shakeri on keyboards and Dave Melyan on drums. Collectively this rhythm section has shared the stage with notable national acts such as Louisiana Red, Rich Delgrosso, Phil Wiggins, Daryl Davis, and Paul Delay.

The Insomniacs have quickly established themselves amongst the top tier acts on the west coast, as evidenced by their recent signing by Delta Groove Productions. In their brief time together they’ve already shared a number of highlights and honors, including sharing Cascade Blues Association awards podium in 2006 with artists such as Keb’ Mo’, Curtis Salgado, Paul Delay, DK Stewart, Duffy Bishop, Reggie Houston, Lloyd Jones, and Jimi Bott as they accepted the Muddy Award for “Best New Act” of 2006.

Their debut CD on Delta Groove, “Left Coast Blues”, has raised their profile via radio airplay and numerous rave reviews. True to their reputation, “Left Coast Blues” combines various flavors of slow blues, jump, swing, rock and roll, twists, and shuffles that will keep you on your feet 'til the party's over.

Show starts at 8 PM. Cover is $8 at the door.

SPOONSHINE

Three part vocal harmonies, mandolin, guitar, keys, woodwinds, stand up bass, and an ecclectic drum set make up this four piece’s sound. From high energy grooves, to melodic laments, sets can be short and sweet, or all night long, depending on the setting. From a stage at a festival, to busking on the street corner, it’s all about connecting with people through music.

Spoonshine has been performing in small towns, big cities, bars, community halls, and festivals for over three years now. They have played at The Oregon Country Fair , Joshua Tree Music Festival , Seattle Folklife Festival , University Street Fair , Fremont Fair , The Subdued String Band Jamboree , Anacortes Arts Festival , Western Washington Earth Day Festival, The Herbal Fair, The Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts, The Seattle International Beer Festival , and many other venues throughout the region.

They have shared the bill with The John Butler Trio , Frequinox (featuring Stanton Moore and Robert Mercurio of Galactic ; Robert Walters from 20th Congress , and The Greyboy Allstars ; Donald Harrison of the Headhunters; Will Bernard from TJ Kirk ), Zilla ( featuring Michael Travis from the String Cheese Incident ), David Lindley ; The Benenvento Russo Duo ; Papa Mali ; ThaMuseMeant ; Taarka ; Signal Path ; The Zen Tricksters ; Flowmotion ; The Motet ; Jamie Janover ; Jim Page ; Artis The Spoonman ; and many other wonderfull musicians.

FIRKIN FRIDAY EVERY WEEK

On Firkin Fridays, the Rockfish Grill offers cask conditioned versions of Anacortes ales. Cask conditioning is an English tradition that allows the beer to finish its fermentation in the barrel or "firkin" resulting in a character and complexity unique from any other beer. We'll offer a different variety every Friday served directly from the firkin with a traditional English hand pump. There's one batch a week and we pour till its gone, so get it while you can!

POLLY O'KEARY and the RHYTHM METHOD
Saturday, December 22, 2007

POLLY O'KEARY and the RHYTHM METHOD

“GOOD GOLLY MISS POLLY YOU SURE CAN SING!!!” raved the Washington State Blues Society Bluesletter. And blues fans agreed, naming the 33-year-old bass playing diva the top female vocalist of 2003 and nominating her again in 2004 and 2005.

The lovely blues belter is backed by the Rhythm Method featuring Willie Straub on guitar, a veteran of the Northwest blues scene.

The band recently completed the album “Gather ‘Round” under Grammy-award winning, multi-platinum producer Conrad Uno at Seattle 's legendary Egg Studio. The result is a sophisticated yet rootsy album that has become a DJ favorite on blues radio around the Pacific Northwest, including KISM in Bellingham and KSER in Seattle.

Yet as well-received as the album has been, it is the band's live performance that really knocks people out.
