Friday, April 4, 2008

MUDDY WATERS BIRTHDAY with THE COLONEL and DOUBLESHOT, SPECIAL GUEST: SON JACK JR.

The Colonel brings his fiery blues axe to the Rockfish along with his excellent band, Doubleshot to celebrate Muddy Waters Birthday.

Many of you will recognize the Colonel as host of the popular Rockfish series, "Guitarslinger" which features the top blues guitar players in the area. This year's show is April18th and includes Adrian Clarke, Jevon Powell, Chris Stevens and Fat James.

Opening the show is Delta blues guitarist and songwriter, Son Jack Jr (pictuted).

Son Jack Jr grew up in London, England and has been playing guitar since the early age of nine. In the late 1970's and early 1980's he recorded and toured extensively in the UK but stepped out of the music business in 1983 to follow a different path.

After a 24 year hiatus, Son Jack Jr. is back with a new CD, the culmination of several years work. He's an excellent singer, an engaging storyteller and a master on his six string National Delphi.

PAUL GREEN

Paul Green's 35-year professional career began in New Jersey in 1968 with The Blackberry Booze Band. He also performed with other Jersey musicians including Bruce Springsteen, The E Street Band, Clarence Clemons and Little Steven Van Zandt.

Moving to Oakland, California, in 1975, Paul became a member of the house band at a popular blues spot, Eli's Mile High Club, performing there weekly and recording two albums with JJ Malone and Troyce Key. From 1975 to 1989 he performed throughout the Bay Area with his own band and other musicians, including Sonny Rhodes, Little Frankie Lee, JJ "Bad Boy" Jones, Cool Papa, Percy Mayfield, Lowell Fulson, Pee Wee Crayton, John Little John, and others.

In 1989 Paul relocated to Chicago where he continued to "cool himself" in the blues. He performed in such legendary Chicago blues clubs as Buddy Guy's, Rosa's, Kingston Mines, and Blues Etc., and shared the stage with such notables as Sugar Blue and Junior Wells.

Paul came to the Seattle area in 1991 and promptly won the Washington Blues Society award for "Best Blues Harmonica" in 1992. More recently, he won this award again in 2001, 2003 and 2004, and was also voted "Best Male Vocalist" in 2004.

Paul has recorded extensively with Dan Dean Productions for commercial and studio productions and has been performing locally in numerous venues with his hard-hitting Chicago-style electric blues quartet, Straight Shot.

FIRKIN FRIDAY EVERY WEEK
Friday, April 25, 2008

FIRKIN FRIDAY EVERY WEEK

On Firkin Fridays, the Rockfish Grill offers cask conditioned versions of Anacortes ales. Cask conditioning is an English tradition that allows the beer to finish its fermentation in the barrel or "firkin" resulting in a character and complexity unique from any other beer. We'll offer a different variety every Friday served directly from the firkin with a traditional English hand pump. There's one batch a week and we pour till its gone, so get it while you can!

BOW DIDDLERS
Saturday, April 26, 2008

BOW DIDDLERS

The Bow Diddlers have eclectic tastes in music, but they REALLY like to
play hoppin' fiddle tunes and old-timey country music (we're talkin' Hank
Sr, Lefty, Louvin Bros.). Then they'll throw in some boogie woogie,
some swing, a little jazz and rock'n'roll.....Maybe something by Richard Thompson, The Beatles or some Motown.....Ya never know!

Featuring fiddler-extraordinaire Jon Parry, Bill Jedrzejewski on vocals
and guitar, Peter Pendras on lead guitar and vocals, Dan McDonald on
bass and Dan Duggin on accordion and keys,

The Bow Diddlers have been based in Bow/Edison for the last two years, Building a following, drawing people from Seattle to B.C. and recently recording their first album (to be released in the Spring).

Even though they've only been together as a group for 2 years, they collectively have almost two (!) centuries of playing music under their belts. So these Geezers know a thing or three, but they're always trying new stuff and always willing to go out on a limb.
