SCOTT HOLT BAND
Thursday, May 3, 2007

SCOTT HOLT BAND

Guitarist Scott Holt cut his teeth at the ripe age of 20 with the legendary Buddy Guy learning the blues directly from the source.

That education led him into a lifelong quest to become a great songwriter, guitarist and performer.

With band mates Tom Larson and Richard Sanders, The Scott Holt Band has earned a reputation as one of the most exciting live acts on the road today, and with a schedule that counts close to 300 dates per year, they are certainly one of the hardest working.

Scott has performed on record and on stages all over the world, with everyone from Eric Clapton to members of the Jimi Hendrix Experience, performed on television at Austin City Limits, The Tonight Show, Conan O’Brien, Good Morning America, and has appeared in the motion picture "Things To Do In Denver When You’re Dead".

The Scott Holt Band is currently in the studio, recording their 6th record. Scott can also be heard and seen on the Buddy Guy box set; Can't Quit The Blues, out now.

Don't miss the first Rockfish apperance by this fiery guitar hero, 8 PM Thursday 5/3. Cover is $8 at the door.

SPOONSHINE

SPOONSHINE

Three part vocal harmonies, mandolin, guitar, keys, woodwinds, stand up bass, and an ecclectic drum set make up this four piece’s sound. From high energy grooves, to melodic laments, sets can be short and sweet, or all night long, depending on the setting. From a stage at a festival, to busking on the street corner, it’s all about connecting with people through music.

Spoonshine has been performing in small towns, big cities, bars, community halls, and festivals for over three years now. They have played at The Oregon Country Fair , Joshua Tree Music Festival , Seattle Folklife Festival , University Street Fair , Fremont Fair , The Subdued String Band Jamboree , Anacortes Arts Festival , Western Washington Earth Day Festival, The Herbal Fair, The Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts, The Seattle International Beer Festival , and many other venues throughout the region.

They have shared the bill with The John Butler Trio , Frequinox (featuring Stanton Moore and Robert Mercurio of Galactic ; Robert Walters from 20th Congress , and The Greyboy Allstars ; Donald Harrison of the Headhunters; Will Bernard from TJ Kirk ), Zilla ( featuring Michael Travis from the String Cheese Incident ), David Lindley ; The Benenvento Russo Duo ; Papa Mali ; ThaMuseMeant ; Taarka ; Signal Path ; The Zen Tricksters ; Flowmotion ; The Motet ; Jamie Janover ; Jim Page ; Artis The Spoonman and many other wonderfull musicians.

CINCO de MAYO with BOBBY HOLLAND and the BREADLINE
Saturday, May 5, 2007

CINCO de MAYO with BOBBY HOLLAND and the BREADLINE

Join us on Cinco de Mayo for an appearance by Bobby Holland and the Breadline.

Their music is an up-tempo mix of traditional blues and other diverse blues based material including many contemporary originals.

In many ways, Breadline defies categorization as they move seamlessly from a standard like Muddy Water’s “King Bee” to a rockin’ version of the Buck Owens classic “Hot Dog” and onto a bluesy take of Frank Zappa’s “Cosmik Debris”. Along the way they deliver first rate original material from the songwriting team of Bobby Holland and Rick Star.

TERRY HANCK
Thursday, May 17, 2007

TERRY HANCK

Join us as we welcome sax man Terry Hanck to the Rockfish. Show starts at 8:00 PM and the cover is $8 at the door.

Terry Hanck is well known for his hard blowing sax, incredible range and gusty vocals. Born in Chicago, Hanck was heavily influenced by the blues, soul and jazz music of the 50’s and early 60’s.

After moving to California in 1965, he toured with Elvin Bishop through most of the 70’s and 80’s and Bishop gave him plenty of opportunities to hone his craft on stage.

“Terry Hanck is a fine vocalist, an amazing showman, and my favorite sax player,” says Bishop.

Terry Hanck left the Bishop band to tour under his own name in the late 80’s playing a signature mix of New Orleans Gumbo, West Coast Jump and East Bay Funk, all delivered with a heavy dose of blues and soul.

He draws on a vast repertoire of songs, including many originals and his energetic performances spotlight an artist at the peak of his craft.

Hanck hits a hitgh water mark with his new album, "Night Train". Backed by a stellar team that includes Robert Cray B-3 player Jim Pugh and Charlie Musselwhite guitarist “Kid” Andersen, as well as Sid Morris (piano) and Butch Cousins (drums), with occasional bass from Michael Brooks, Hanck lays down a sizzling collection of R&B and blues tunes marked by vocals and sax playing that are well-phrased, tuneful, and soulful.

FIRKIN FRIDAY EVERY WEEK

FIRKIN FRIDAY EVERY WEEK

On Firkin Fridays, the Rockfish Grill offers cask conditioned versions of Anacortes ales. Cask conditioning is an English tradition that allows the beer to finish its fermentation in the barrel or "firkin" resulting in a character and complexity unique from any other beer. We'll offer a different variety every Friday served directly from the firkin with a traditional English hand pump. There's one batch a week and we pour till its gone, so get it while you can!

POLLY O'KEARY and the RHYTHM METHOD

POLLY O'KEARY and the RHYTHM METHOD

“GOOD GOLLY MISS POLLY YOU SURE CAN SING!!!” raved the Washington State Blues Society Bluesletter. And blues fans agreed, naming the 33-year-old bass playing diva the top female vocalist of 2003 and nominating her again in 2004 and 2005.

The lovely blues belter is backed by the Rhythm Method faeturing C.D. Woodbury on guitar, a veteran of the well-known blues scenes in the Portland and Austin areas, and drummer Les Merrihew who has played with everyone from Albert Collins to Pinetop Perkins.

The band recently completed the album “Gather ‘Round” under Grammy-award winning, multi-platinum producer Conrad Uno at Seattle 's legendary Egg Studio. The result is a sophisticated yet rootsy album that has become a DJ favorite on blues radio around the Pacific Northwest, including KISM in Bellingham and KSER in Seattle.

Yet as well-received as the album has been, it is the band's live performance that really knocks people out.
