BOBBY HOLLAND and the BREADLINE

BOBBY HOLLAND and the BREADLINE

The music of Bobby Holland and the Breadline is an up-tempo mix of rockin' blues with a disitnctly southern flavor.

Led by guitarist Bobby Holland and featuring former world harmonica champion Jim McLaughlin, the band features top notch musicianship, four part harmony and a catalog of excellent original material which they combine with their own unique intrepretations of blues standards.

In many ways, Breadline defies categorization as they move seamlessly from a standard like Muddy Waters "King Bee" to a rockin version of the Buck Owens classic "Hot Dog" and onto a bluesy take of Frank Zappa's "Cosmik Debris".

Along the way they deliver first rate original material from the songwriting team of Bobby Holland and Rick Star.

One thing is certain, Bobby Holland and the Breadline project an image of fun, and they get people out on the dance floor.

4TH OF JULY with SPOONSHINE

Celebrate Independence Day with Spoonshine!

There is an old cliche: the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. But it applies here. The physical things that make up this quartet's sound are vocal harmonies, mandolin, guitar, upright bass and drums. But that doesn’t describe what it sounds like when it all comes together.

At times, they evoke the spirit of an old time string band, with the acoustic roots of bluegrass and folk music clearly present, but with the drive of rollicking drums pushing it along at breakneck speeds. At other times the sound combines with roots rock, and even punk influences.

An old beat up acoustic, flat picking around an Appalachian melody. An overdriven telecaster mimicking the sounds of a pedal steel. Fast Nashville runs, haunting soundscapes, the speed and rhythm of a hellbent locomotive, the occasional slow lilt of a lonesome country waltz. Their brand of original music is unclassifiable within conventional genres. Bluegrass, country, folk, rock; we’ll call it Americana for now.

PAUL GREEN and STRAIGHT SHOT

Paul Green's 35-year professional career began in New Jersey in 1968 with The Blackberry Booze Band. He also performed with other Jersey musicians including Bruce Springsteen, The E Street Band, Clarence Clemons and Little Steven Van Zandt.

Moving to Oakland, California, in 1975, Paul became a member of the house band at a popular blues spot, Eli's Mile High Club, performing there weekly and recording two albums with JJ Malone and Troyce Key. From 1975 to 1989 he performed throughout the Bay Area with his own band and other musicians, including Sonny Rhodes, Little Frankie Lee, JJ "Bad Boy" Jones, Cool Papa, Percy Mayfield, Lowell Fulson, Pee Wee Crayton, John Little John, and others.

In 1989 Paul relocated to Chicago where he continued to "cool himself" in the blues. He performed in such legendary Chicago blues clubs as Buddy Guy's, Rosa's, Kingston Mines, and Blues Etc., and shared the stage with such notables as Sugar Blue and Junior Wells.

Paul came to the Seattle area in 1991 and promptly won the Washington Blues Society award for "Best Blues Harmonica" in 1992. More recently, he won this award again in 2001, 2003 and 2004, and was also voted "Best Male Vocalist" in 2004.

Paul has recorded extensively with Dan Dean Productions for commercial and studio productions and has been performing locally in numerous venues with his hard-hitting Chicago-style electric blues quartet, Straight Shot.

FIRKIN FRIDAYS

On Firkin Fridays, the Rockfish Grill offers cask conditioned versions of Anacortes ales. Cask conditioning is an English tradition that allows the beer to finish its fermentation in the barrel or "firkin" resulting in a character and complexity unique from any other beer. We'll offer a different variety every Friday served directly from the firkin with a traditional English hand pump. There's one batch a week and we pour till its gone, so get it while you can!

CEE CEE JAMES
Saturday, July 25, 2009

CEE CEE JAMES

A variety of rock and blues bands during the late 80’s and into the 90’s, brought Cee Cee James, formally known as Christina Fasano, ‘the funkywhitegirl,’ into the collaboration and recording of her first CD entitled ‘Spiritually Wet,’ released in late 1999.

"Spiritually Wet" went forward to gain top MP3.com R&B chart status right under the major label group TLC during 2000. That same year, Christina took home the 10th Annual Los Angeles Music R&B Award; and the first cut off the CD, ‘It’s Just A Funk Thang,’ gained R&B Song TOP 10 ‘runner up’ status in the JOHN LENNON SONGWRITING CONTEST. The CD garnered endless stellar reviews and gained press in several on and offline publications, as well as receiving play on several Indie U.S. and European Radio Stations.

However after several intense changes in her life in 2002, Christina took on her fan nickname of Cee Cee and turned her funked up soul stuff toward writing and singing Roots Rock and Blues.

Cee Cee moved to Portland, OR, from San Diego, CA where she had worked with her Roots Rock band for 2 years playing countless venues including the famed Adams Avenue Street Fair and the El Cajon Concerts on the Green. Continuing on in Oregon, Cee Cee worked with two great lineups of musicians through 2007 playing locally in clubs and festivals in the Portland area, up through Anacortes, WA and down into Bend, OR.

She relocated to Washington where she has just finished recording her second CD of original material entitled “Low Down Where the Snakes Crawl," full of Roots Rock, Blues, and even a little Country tune, with lyrics crafted from a life fully lived and experienced.

Cee Cee is one of the most 'real and raw' performers out there and has been endlessly compared to Janis Joplin, Joe Cocker and Stevie Ray Vaughn in her stage performances. Her voice and expression reach down immediately into the gut, grab a hold, and don't let go until days after the last note is sung.

She moves inside a seductive and contemplative vibe with lyrics that seduce the soul inwards, upwards, or wherever it chooses to go. Writing her lyrics from a place of need - for freedom and the feeling that we all want to discover and be accepted for who we are from our core individual essence.

Cee Cee is extremely hard working, easy to work with and is available for trio and full band performances.

She is looking forward to continuing to give of her life through singing, writing for herself and others and performances all over the world.

"...she appears to be loved by some, panned by others, and regardless of the vocal mega talent, has never been recognized by the right people. Her career has taken a hit recently due to personal issues. Her own Bio tends to parallel that of Janice Joplin in many ways, at least in hopes, dreams, successes and failures. As her set continued, the vocal talent and stage presence became obvious. Her version of Red House combined great music and lyrics with gutsy, raw vocals and superior stage appeal. She finished with a Tina Turner song, Nutbush City Limits. This woman is a riveting performer, primarily in the rock and R & B genres. If you like this type of music, I highly recommend taking in one of her shows."
